Salem Road House

Welcome to the Salem Road House log cabin web page. This log home is nestled on the bank of the Eight Mile River, in Lyme Connecticut. This is a photo documentary of all the aspects of the design & construction of the Log Cabin. This Log Home project was started on May 26th 2007 and is an Original Lincoln Logs Kit, we purchased from Patlin Enterprises in Charlemont, MA. It all starts with a modified Star Lake plan set. It’s 2,225 sq. ft. with 3 bed rooms, 2 1/2 baths, Radiant Floor Heat, Maple Hardwood Floors and a massive custom built River Jack chimney with an arched Rumford fireplace, 10 foot basement ceilings, Vaulted Living Room & Kitchen ceilings with tongue & groove pine. Custom concrete counter top for the Breakfast Bar.

(We’ve had 2 Birds & 3 humming birds come into the house and get trapped in behind the plate glass windows during construction. we were able to catch them and let them go outside!)

For Log preservative, We used Sikkens Teak Log stain.

The blue wrapper is finally off the hood!

May 6th, 2008 is the 1 year mark for the Log Home start date, when the excavators brought on to the property.

The excavation for this house project was started May 26th 2007.

On June 9th we poured the footings, on June 22nd, we poured the foundation walls.

On July 5th, the Lincoln Log Package was delivered.

On July 10th, the foundation cap was completed.

Then we next 30 days were spent cutting, fitting and assembling the Log Wall Courses.

August 13th we had the second floor deck in place.

August 30 the rafters were in place.

September 9th the Roof Sheathing was in place.

September 18th, the Masons got on board with the project, got to the first floor with the rough block support base for the chimney by October 3rd.

Meanwhile the roof was mostly put on by November 8th.

The Masons finished the Rumford Fireplace box by November 12th.

Then started on the massive River Jack Chimney.

Then came doors & windows by November 15th.

December 13, the Masons reached the roof.

By December 21th the masons are putting the finishing touches on the massive chimney.
